The "modern" building is less than 450 years old
though The Priory's history is much longer. For five hundred
years there were monks in residence and before that a convent
of nuns. All that remains of wide monastic lands are four
acres of gardens. We are proud
of our gardens. Wareham is not a noisy town and we are
in a quiet corner with superb views of the river, the valley
and the hills beyond.
The setting is not timeless; not quite. The pulse of the
tide beats in the river to mark the passing of the moon and
the gardens change with the season. Perhaps it's because The
Priory has been here so long that time presses so lightly.
Thirteen hundred years give or take a century. Why not come
and add your own small chapter to our story? |
